Nafplio became the “golden apple” between Francs, Venetians and Turks. The conquerors alternate and leave their marks behind. Palamidi is the best preserved fortress of Venetians in Greece and is proudly stands 216 m above sea level.
Nafplio, a Peloponnesian city, was also the first capital of Greece and its historical center offers the medieval Old Town, narrow cobblestone alleys, neoclassical well preserved mansions with bougainvillea trees adorning their yards, balconies and Turkish fountains.

If you aren’t a big fan of seafood, you will be thrilled at a meze restaurant (meaning that it serves small, contemporary dishes to be shared).
Pidalio serves well-cooked, traditional mezes. Taste dishes such as the skioufichta” macaroni which has plenty of cream and cheese, but the baked eggplant with beef in tomato sauce is scrumptious! The “politiki” is also well worth trying (a salad made with pickled cabbage and carrot);
